Reds Close to Signing Burriss
- Updated: November 24, 2012
The Cincinnati Reds are close to signing Emmanuel Burriss to a minor league contract.
There has been no report how long or how much the deal will be worth but Reds.com has reported the deal will take place soon.
Burriss, 27, elected free agency on November 8th, 2 days after being designated for assignment. In 60 games this season, he hit a rough .213 and is a .243 lifetime hitter. Burriss is primarily a SS/2B combo who can play 3B and LF. Burriss will provide very fast speed off the bench and would be a great compliment to Rolen, Cozart, and Brandon Phillips.
Although he was signed to a minor league contract, he will most likely make the big league club out of Spring Training and take over the role of Willie Harris or Miguel Cairo who are both free agents.
