Detroit Tigers Closer
After the disastrous performance Jose Valverde had in the 2012 postseason, the Tigers are unlikely to re-sign the 34 year old reliever. Some people have been wondering who is going to be closing the games for the Tigers next year.
Well, Detroit has been preparing Bruce Rondon to be on that spot as soon as possible. The 21 year old RHP throws nothing but heat to the plate and his fastball arrives easily at 98 mph, reaching 100 very often. However, his weakness has always been a lack of control, but he is getting better everyday and will probably get the job out of spring training.
In 2012 between A+, AA and AAA, he saved 29 games, had an ERA of 1.53, with 66 SO and 26 Walks in 53.0 IP
Rondon is currently playing winter baseball in his native Venezuela, where the Tigers have limited him to throw only 20 innings in a 63-game season. He has looked very focused and dominant.
So far he has saved six games, with a 4.26 ERA, 14 SO and 5 Walks in 12.2 IP for his team Navegantes del Magallanes.
