Mariano Rivera leads jersey sales in second-half
Have you had enough of Mariano Rivera yet?
According to the online shop of MLB.com, Rivera has had the most jersey sales since the beginning of the second half of this season. It comes to me as a surprise because during Rivera’s 19-year MLB career, there had been plenty of chances to purchase his jersey. Despite his career coming to a close (no pun intended), Mo’s jerseys have been in demand.
After Mo – Matt Harvey, Yasiel Puig, Manny Machado, Buster Posey. Clayton Kershaw, Yadier Molina, Andrew McCutchen, Yeonis Cespedes, and Mike Trout round-out the top-10 jersey sales. Other than Molina, who is 31 years old, everyone else on that list are either 27 years old or younger.
Despite age, Rivera garners the respect of many to this day. Of course his retirement plays a big role in the boost, in sales, at this point in his career which does not surprise me in terms of that aspect.
