Los Angeles Dodgers News: Don Mattingly Will Return to Hollywood for Another Season

Don Mattingly hasn’t had it very easy these last seven months. He’s been criticized, blamed and blasted for the failures of the Dodgers this past season while still being praised and regarded as a good manager. Despite all of this, Mattingly will return to the Dodgers for atleast one more season to try to bring them to their first World Series since 1988.

Matttingly first took the job when he was chosen by Joe Torre, the Dodgers manager from 2008-2010, to take over as manager.  Mattingly’s first two seasons with the Dodgers he managed teams that both posted winning records, 82-79 and 86-76. In 2013, the Dodgers and their fans had high hopes to succeed and  make a splash in the fall classic. The year didn’t begin the way the team would have liked it. After playing poorly in April and May, their record stood at 23-30. Mattingly’s job was hanging in the balance. If the Dodgers continued this downward trend Donnie probably would have lost his job. Fortunately Mattingly was saved  by the Dodgers’ young star, Yasiel Puig. Puig gave the team a much needed spark and helped them make a run into the postseason.

Everything for Don seemed prefect: The Dodgers made it to the playoffs and his job was safe. He had one job, make it to the world series and win it all. Although for Donnie nothing would come easy for him. After winning game 1 of the NLDS, game 2 started the headaches for Mattingly. Due to a lapse of judgment in a critical 7th inning, the Dodgers lost 4-3. Many people called out Mattingly on putting in reliever Paco Rodriguez in such a tension filled situation. Mattingly again faced criticism when he replaced Ricky Nolasco with Clayton Kershaw as the starter for game 4. This decision paid off though as the Dodgers won the game and the series. The Dodgers then faced the Cardinals in the NLCS where they fell to the Cards 4-2. The series was marked with injuries and lackluster hitting on the Dodgers side. Again people began to blame Mattingly for the poor play of the Dodgers.

For now at least Dodger fans will just have to wait to see if Don Mattingly can bring the magic back to LA for another season.
