MLB Rumors: A’s sign right-hander Phil Humber

UPDATE:

Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports that the Oakland Athletics have signed right-hander Philip Humber, who had elected for free agency from the Astros.

In case you’re confused, ball clubs can start negotiating and signing players on Tuesday at 12:01 A.M. ET. However, these kind of moves are due to players who choose to become free agents instead of being outrighted to the minors and of course they are taken off of the 40-man roster.

Phil Humber, who will soon turn 31 in December, went 0-8 with a 7.90 ERA with 5.9 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in 54 2/3 innings with the Houston Astros.  For his career, Humber has gone 16-23 with a 5.31 ERA and 272 strikeouts in 97 game appearances with the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros .

The right-hander tossed the 21st perfect game in Major League History with the White Sox in 2012 against the Seattle Mariners which ended 4-0.
